Aim and Procedures
Aim
The NADIYA research (Nadiya is the Ukrainian word for hope) aims to gain insight into factors that facilitate or impede the integration of Ukrainian refugees in the Netherlands and the development of their (psychological) well-being. We aim to investigate the short-, medium-, and long-term effects and factors impacting their health over time, in order to compare these to refugees from other countries of origin. Additionally, the aim is to learn more about how the mental health of children of different ages is impacted, how these children adapt to drastically different circumstances, and how their relationships with their parents are.
Furthermore, whenever the possibility arises to include Ukrainian participants who stay abroad, or in Ukraine, we will do so.
As our first step, we want to inform Dutch communities about the health conditions and needs of Ukrainian newcomers in the Netherlands.

Procedures
We have created an online survey for adults, adolescents and children, which we want to distribute among the Ukrainian population in the Netherlands. Surveys have been designed for four waves in a large sample (N=2500; estimated N=2000 adults; and N=500 children) of Ukrainian refugees in the Netherlands. Subsequent waves will have intermediate time periods of 6 months.
In the future, we intend to conduct qualitative interviews with those willing to gain a more nuanced insight into their experiences.
